Hello! Thank you so much for taking the time to get to know me!
My name is Jess and I am a documentary family photographer from Bath, Somerset
I live with my husband, my beautiful 2 year old son Edward (who I am OBSESSED with) and we mustn’t forget our feisty cat Agatha, who is a little forgotten now since Edward arrived (sorry Ags).
I love people. And I love documentary photography. I am also slowly but surely learning to love dust (!) I also love Mexican food (always with extra jalapeño’s) and I am a big fan of gritty Danish thrillers on TV (The Bridge being my favourite).
Just to give you a little bit of my background, I studied fine art at Edinburgh College of Art for four years. I also studied documentary photography at Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) for a semester. After I graduated I worked in the art world in London for 7 years. Shortly after my husband and I got engaged, we decided we had done the London thing and fancied a change of pace and different lifestyle. We moved back to the South West which is where we are both originally from (I’m a Bristol gal and he’s a Taunton guy), got married and not long later had our first baby, Edward!
When I became a Mum I didn't realise I would find so much inspiration in all the smaller life moments with my child; the ordinary, day to day stuff. Him helping me cook, hanging out the washing, playing with him, dancing and singing to George Ezra’s ‘Shotgun’, going for a muddy walk or snuggling on the sofa and watching a movie. There is so much magic and beauty to be found in these unposed, unscripted, raw life moments. The moment’s you wouldn’t think to photograph but actually tell a richer story. The ordinary, which is actually extraordinary!
I truly believe life should be documented as it is; messy, crazy, chaotic, laughter filled, tear filled, and REAL.
My approach is a mixture of documentary and fine art portraiture to create an authentic story of you and your family. I promise you will feel at ease in my company and there will be zero awkward posing. There is so much beauty in normal life. Lets create some art together.
